External evaluations

The Nankai Group has been incorporated into sustainability indexes and has received a number of positive sustainability-related reviews, certifications, and awards.

In February 2023, the "Nankai Group Integrated Report 2022" was selected as a "Highly Improved Integrated Report" by the investment institution to which the GPIF entrusts its domestic equity investments.

In the DBJ Green Building certification system established in April 2011 by the Development Bank of Japan to support buildings that are considerate to the environment and to society (Green Buildings), we received the following certifications.

A building that is exceptionally considerate to the environment and to society that ranks as one of the highest in Japan (5-stars) :NAMBA SkyO

The rooftop park "Parks Garden" in the Namba Parks shopping center that we operate was certified as a FY2014 city oasis by "SEGES (Social and Environmental Green Evaluation System)" hosted by the Organization for Landscape and Urban Green Infrastructure.

We received "Kurumin," which is the certification granted by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare to companies that among the companies that formulated an action plan to support employees' child care based on the "Law for Measures to Support the Development of the Next Generation," satisfied the planned targets and certain criteria.

In a system jointly run by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Nippon Kenko Kaigi to certify large corporations with excellent health management policies, six of our subsidiaries (Nankai Grief Support Co., Ltd., Nankai Fudosan Co., Ltd. and Nankai Vehicles Service Engineering Co., Ltd., Nankai Express Co., Ltd., Nankai System Solutions Co., Ltd. and Nankai Management Service Co., Ltd.) were certified as "Health and Productivity Management 2023 (SMEs division)" companies.

In March 2023, the eSports initiatives promoted by the Company received the 'FOST Social Contribution Award' organised by the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology Fusion. The FOST Award recognises outstanding researchers and organisations in the field of simulation and gaming, and the Company was recognised as an organisation that has made outstanding achievements in terms of social contribution, whether academic or business.

Osaka Prefecture grants the "Osaka Climate Action Award" to business operators that undertake particularly excellent initiatives for climate change and heat island phenomenon, to commend their efforts. In March 2022, we received the "Award of Excellence" in the "Alleviation" sector of the awards for greenhouse-gas-reduction initiatives and so forth.

On May 1, 2021, the "Gokurakubashi Forestation Project Committee" that we are a member of received the "Award for advancing forestation for people" in a letter of appreciation from the Director-General of the Forestry Agency. This letter of appreciation recognized that our forestation project, which since 2009 has continuously worked on the forestation of the area around Gokurakubashi (a state-owned forest) named "Gokuraku Forest," for working together with citizens to create a natural landscape deserving of its location as an entrance to the Mt. Koya world heritage site and for nurturing healthy forests, thereby contributing to the promotion of forestation in state-owned woods and forests designated by the Forestry Agency.

In January 2020, the rooftop park "Parks Garden" in the Namba Parks shopping center that we operate won "The 8th Green Society Contributions Award" hosted by the Organization for Landscape and Urban Green Infrastructure.

In the Environmental Communication Award hosted by the Ministry of the Environment and the Global Environmental Forum to award excellent environmental reports for various stakeholders in various media, including CSR reports, integrated reports, and environmental management reports, we won the "Award of Excellence" (FY2016 to 2018).

In September 2018, we won the Kinki District Transport Bureau Award for Transport Operators Conducting Environmental Conservation Projects. Our "Nankai Environmental Vision 2030" sets targets to comply with the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26% (compared to FY2013) by FY2030 for the first time in the railway industry, and the Vision's initiatives were positively received.

Since FY2010, we have been organizing routes for Koyasan Choishimichi and Kumano Kodo, which are both designated World Heritage sites, and we received letters of appreciation from the Committee of Wakayama World Heritage in March 2015 and in April 2018 for this work.

The rooftop park "Parks Garden" in the Namba Parks shopping center that we operate won the "Architectural Institute of Japan Prize 2016 (performance)" awarded by the Architectural Institute of Japan. The garden's multi-terraced, diverse rooftop gardens received positive reviews for organizing a large space of greenery and being organically linked to the shopping center, continuously creating a sustainable and thriving environment coexisting with nature in the city center.

In February 2016 at "The 7th EST Transport Environment Awards" hosted by the EST Promotion Committee and the Foundation for Promoting Personal Mobility and Ecological Transportation, we won the "Minister of Environment Award."
