Information of surrounding facilities

The 10.3-kilometer track extension work between Koyashita Station and Gokurakubashi Station, which began in 1925 (Taisho 14), was difficult due to the mountainous terrain. Gokurakubashi station opened in Feburary 1929 after this work. (The cable car will open in June of the following year).

The passage on the premises that connects the train platform and the cable car platform also serves as a bridge over the Fudotani River that flows directly below. If you go down the river from the station, you will find the Gokurakubashi Bridge, which is the origin of the station name. Many people enjoy the atmosphere of the old Koya pilgrimage by crossing this bridge, which was rebuilt in 1954, climbing Fudozaka, and coming out to Nyonindo on Mt. Koya.
