Wakayamadaigakumae station opened in April 2012 as a petitioned station from locals including Wakayama Prefecture and Wakayama City. With this, the number of stations in our company has reached 100. The name of the station was chosen from a public competition, and the name Wakayamadaigakumae was chosen because it was expected to improve the image of the Nankai Main Line by naming it after Wakayama University, one of the leading universities along the Nankai Line. The university is located about 2 km southeast of the station.
